Welcome to my Train delays project. Train delays have been a hot topic in the last years in Hungarian media, in order to understand the details, I went beyond the headlines and delve into the world of train delays. Focusing on six passenger routes, namely Budapest-Szeged, Budapest-Pécs, Budapest-Debrecen, Budapest-Békéscsaba, Budapest-Keszthely, Keszthely-Győr and their return journeys, I’ve analyzed data from elvira.mav-start.hu to uncover patterns and trends in train delays. The Train Delays Summary section highlights key findings, offering a comprehensive view of average delays, peak delay times, and problematic stations.

For travelers, the Travel Helper section provides a handy tool to predict longer term delays based on weekday and start hour, showcasing the five shortest and longest delays for each combination of day and start hour. Additionally, I’ve developed a Delays Forecast model which allows users to enter ongoing accumulated delay, route, station, and generates expected real-time delay for the remaining journey.

While this project doesn’t aim to solve Hungary’s railway challenges, it’s a journey into enhancing my data analytics skills and providing passengers with valuable insights to plan their journeys more efficiently. Join me in navigating the tracks of data to make informed travel decisions!
